Technology artefacts
The Centre’s full collection of Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning & Refrigeration artefacts.

The Centre’s collection of artefacts examines a broad range of technologies pertaining to the history of the heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment and their essential contributions to Canada’s rich heritage and way of life.

A rare look at the way we were

With nearly 350 heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration parts and appliances online, our Founding Collection of artefacts from the 1920s to the 1960s are what history looked like during the 20th century. It may be the only collection of HVACR components of its size anywhere! That gives you a rare look into our past to the way we were, so to speak, during your grandparents’ and even parents’ day. It’s our heritage.

Each item was digitally photographed, with a technical description, the year it was manufactured, and an interpretation of what it meant to the whole system, your appliance. In many instances, the core technology has not changed, although the design, the look, has. They also were made to last in those days.

The collection is divided into three galleries, each covering an aspect of HVACR. You can visit just one or two galleries, or you can explore all three.
